Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to clean my Retuned Jewelry?

We recommend an all purpose cleaner like Bar Keepers Friend Spray, though any spray metal cleaner should work. It’s a good multipurpose cleaner and is what we use to clean the strings while crafting our jewelry.

Can I shower with my bracelet on?

Because the strings are used, we have no way of knowing the exact metal makeup of each string. Some strings will be more susceptible to developing surface rust with prolonged exposure to water. While washing your hands is okay, we do not recommend showering, bathing or swimming wearing your bracelet.

It's difficult to take my bracelet off.

To make it easier to take your bracelet off, make sure the larger end of the clasp is away from your thumb when you put it on. This will make it easier to push the end of the button with your other hand.

How does the clasp work?

The clasps on our bracelets use a push button lever mechanism. Where you press will depend on the style of your bracelet and clasp. Below is a sample of the different clasps we use. For each style, push down where indicated by the green cirlce.

How do I know what size bracelet to buy?

To find the perfect bracelet size, follow these steps:

STEP 1: Measure your wrist with a flexible tape measure or a piece of string just below the wrist bone, where you would normally wear the bracelet.

STEP 2: If you are using a piece of string, mark your size with a pen or marker then use a ruler to measure the length. That would be your wrist size.

STEP 3: To find your bracelet size, just add your wrist size with the appropriate measurements below.

FITTING STYLE ADD INCH(ES) TO WRIST SIZE
Snug Fit Add 1/2"
Comfort (standard) Fit Add 1"
Loose Fit Add 1 1/4"

We generally recomend adding 1" to the wrist measurement for the most comfortable fit.

How do I know what size ring to buy?

You can print our ring size guide and either measure your finger or use it to measure another ring. Please be sure that when you print the ring guide, the measurement between the two lines marked IMPORTANT is 3.5 inches.

I accidentally ordered the wrong size. How can I exchange it for the correct size?

My jewelry looks slightly different than the pictures online.

Despite every effort to provide accurate images of each product’s color and design, actual colors and design may vary slightly, due to variations in the guitar string or stone as well as different device screen calibration or settings.

Is the jewelry made from "X" artists strings?

Though named for artists we know, unless otherwise noted, our jewelry is not made from their used strings. We often do receive strings from these, and other artists. The jewelry we make from their strings usually go back to the artists to sell or are donated to charity for fundraisers. *With the exception of Barry Dunaway*

I have a metal allergy. What are guitar strings made of?

Each manufacturer uses a different combination of metal alloys. Since our jewelry is made from used guitar strings, we do not know which manufacturer or line each string is from. If you have an allergy to a particular metal, like nickel, we do not recommend wearing one of our bracelets or necklaces. Our earrings all use nickel free hooks, surgical stainless steel or 22k gold.

Are the strings clean?

All of our jewelry is made from used guitar strings. Because they are used, there could be some discoloration to them. When we get them, we boil all the strings for 15 minutes to sterilize them. We then lightly clean them with a metal cleaner to get any surface dirt or grime off of them. What remains, whether it be fret marks or slight color variations add to the patina or character of each piece.

The clasp doesn't seem to be holding as well as it used to.

This information is useful for the older magnetic clasps we used years ago as well at the lock clasps we currently use.

When shaping our bracelets, we ensure the ends are close together so that the clasp is as effective as possible. However, after taking the bracelet on and off many times, it’s possible the two magnetic ends have come further apart. If that’s the case, the tension from the strings will pull on the magnet and cause it to be weaker and less secure. Just give the bracelet a bit of a bend to get the two ends back close together. This will eliminate the tension from the strings pulling the magnetic ends apart and help keep your bracelet secure. Finally, you may need to clean the inside of the clasp as dirt and debris may be interfering with the function of the clasp.

How long will it take to receive my order?

All of our jewelry is handmade. While we try to keep the most popular sizes in stock, it may take up to 4 business days to ship your order. Selecting Priority Shipping during checkout does not guarantee your order will ship the same or next day. Priority Shipping applies to the time your order is in transit. If you need your order by a certain date, please contact us and we will try our best to meet your deadline.

Tracking says delivered but I can't find my package

If tracking says delivered but the package is not in your mailbox, in your apartment office, or on the doorstep, here are some things to know, organized by courier:

What to do is your order was shipped USPS:

  • USPS delivery vans have GPS that sometimes automatically updates a shipment as "delivered" prematurely. Wait another business day because the package was most likely marked as delivered accidentally, and will arrive the following day

  • Contact your local post office. Make sure to call your LOCAL OFFICE, and NOT the USPS HOTLINE (this can take a lot of time, and they only tell you what the tracking already says). Ask them who delivered the parcel, and ask them details about that day's delivery. They are used to these types of questions, and can usually provide helpful information.

  • If the parcel does not show up (extremely rare occasion), please call the Post Office and file a claim. Retuned Jewelry cannot reimburse orders that were misdelivered by the post office or stolen from a property. Thank you for understanding. (Please read our Shipping Policy)

  • What to do if your order was shipped UPS:

  • Allow an extra business day for your parcel to arrive.
  • Contact UPS Hotline - 1-800-742-5877

  • What to do if your order was shipped FedEx:

  • Allow an extra business day for your parcel to arrive.
  • Contact FedEx Customer Support - https://www.fedex.com/en-us/customer-support.html

We do not have a physical store. We sell online and at various markets, festivals and events. You can see a list of our upcoming events here. If you're in the Denver metro area, you can also find our jewelry at Jensen Guitar in Longmont, Guitar Hut in Lafayette, Monkton Guitars in Broomfield, Flipside Music in Denver and lack and Blues Music and Brews in Loveland. Sorry, but for safety reasons, we do not "meet up" to sell our jewelry.
