MUSIC IS WHAT FEELINGS SOUND LIKE

Growing up, my husband Ian and I had a strong connection to music. I found music therapeutic and an escape from personal matters. For Ian, music was a way to calm his over active mind and allowed him to focus. Over the years, we have been fortunate to become friends with many artists and musicians. We have developed a greater appreciation for the dedication that goes into making the music we listened to.

Christina had started a hobby making earrings from old bike tire inner tubes because the two of us are into cycling and hate throwing things away. Talking with our musician friends, we found out they were all throwing away their old guitar strings. Wondering why they weren’t recycling the strings, we discovered that because of the various alloys used in making guitar strings, they were difficult to recycle and couldn’t simply be put in the recycling bin. Further, we discovered that over 700 tons of guitar strings end up in landfills every year.

In the fall of 2016, we sat down at the kitchen table one Sunday, and began an exciting adventure of designing jewelry from used guitar strings. There was an instant connection. We discovered a matching emotional feeling from when we were younger and Retuned was born.

Our continued inspiration comes from our musician friends as well as the wonderful artists we have met. It’s in the stories they tell and the emotions they evoke. It comes from the countless hours of dedication they put into doing what they love. We feel all the love, passion and hard work these strings have been a part of. Our jewelry gives the strings new life and allows their stories to live on.

We proudly hand make each piece in Colorado.
